Organizing Clutter Using These 4 Easy Tips PDF Print E-mail

Clutter control for your home and lifeIs organizing clutter on your to do list?  No matter what the weather or time of year it is a good time to get rid of clutter. Here are 4 easy tips to help you reduce clutter.

Do you think organizing clutter is a pain in the neck and you just never get around to it?  Now is a good time to get around to it. One reason it is so daunting could be because you don’t know where to start and what to do with all the stuff. Sometimes we just get stuck. I have some great tips on how to get unstuck when it comes to organizing clutter in your home and in your life.

It is a three step process. Step # 1:

Look around your home and evaluate what you want your home to look like. What do you think clutter is? What makes it too much stuff? When you decide what you want your rooms to look like and you have done an honest evaluation then you can move on to the next step.

Step #2:

Now that you have decided what is working for you and what you want to change set some goals. Make small ones and large ones.

Step #3:

Start organizing clutter a little at a time.  Set your timer and work for a certain length of time.  I recommend under 30 minutes when you first begin so that you don’t become overwhelmed. Work for longer periods of time if you aren’t feeling overwhelmed, you can set a goal to come back to it. Now let’s get started.

Are you hanging on to clutter because it has sentimental value? Do you keep things because they belonged to a relative so you are afraid to get rid of it? If it is something that reminds you of that person and you have a place for it or you are going to hand it down to another family member then it is probably okay to keep it. But you don’t have to have everything on display. Pack up the item and put it in storage if you are going to give it to a child who will someday take it to their home.

Donate the item, this doesn’t eliminate the memories you have of the person who gave it to you or that you inherited it from. Take a picture of the item and put it in your family photo album. You will always have the memory of your friend or relative that gave you the item even if you don’t keep the item. Looking at the picture will bring back the memories just as well as looking at the item itself, without the clutter.

You deserve to have simplicity and serenity in your life. When our lives are cluttered and chaotic serenity often escapes us. By organizing clutter and removing it from your home and schedule you are more likely to have simplicity and serenity. Less is more.

Your trash could be another person’s treasure. By donating items that are cluttering up your home and life you’re benefiting someone else. It benefits others who are able to buy them at reasonable prices and it benefits disabled workers who are employed by those organizations.

Once in awhile I think I want a larger house so I can hang more photos and more quilts. Then I dust and I think I need a smaller house. Having less stuff means less housework. Cleaning takes time and with less stuff that reduces housework which frees up our time to do other things we would rather be doing.

When you are organizing clutter think back to your goals and the reasons you set those goals. They might have been things like: having less house work to do, spending more time with family and friends, helping others by donating items you don’t want any more. No matter what your goals are, start organizing clutter now. You will be happy to have clutter gone which will open up your life to peace and serenity in this busy world.
