On my birthday two years ago I spent the entire night and part of a day in the Boston airport trying to get a plane to Washington D.C. I was flying stand-by and all the planes were full. So there I was sleeping on the floor. The morning before going to the airport I checked my cell phone and it had three bars. It must have been sliding down to two as later in the day when I needed it to coordinate with family it was dying.
So, my organizing travel tip of the day is this:
•When going on a trip either by plane, train, or automobile make sure your cell phone is completely charged. Even if you think it is, charge it the night before anyway. If you get stuck someplace you will be glad you have a fully charged cell phone.
Even though I won’t be using my phone in Japan I want it charged when I leave so when I return 10 days later I can let my family know when my plane lands so they can pull right up to passenger pick up. After 15 hours and 36 minutes travel time I won’t want to spend one more second in an airport.
I still ask myself, what did we ever do without cell phones? Life is so much more complicated, yet so much easier. What are your traveling experiences with cell phones?

I took my de charging cell phone to a mobile phone kiosk at the iarport. They were happy to charge it for me. This was in Atlanta and san diego airports.
Thank you for letting me know. I found a kiosk for charging at LAX in the JAL waiting area, but in San Fransisco I was wandering around trying to find a place to charge my phone.
