Cosmetic Clutter Clearing

Monday, August 31st, 2009 by admin

Clutter clearingHave you ever thought about the amount of time you waste looking for the perfect lipstick to wear with your favorite outfit? That is if your cosmetics are all jumbled. To simplify and streamline your cosmetics follow these simple steps for clutter clearing your makeup:

•Keep make-up and facial products in separate containers. You can use attractive matching containers or containers you have around your home such as mugs, or shallow baskets etc.
•Take a look at all of your cosmetics and only keep what you use. It is a waste of time to have to search through products you don’t use to find the ones you do use. Bacteria can grow on old cosmetics so toss them and don’t feel bad that you spent money on something you aren’t using. You used it at one time and now you can let it go.

Do you have a favorite way to organize your make-up? Do you think the bacteria that can grow on cosmetics is bad if you are the only one who uses it? Share with us your clutter clearing tips!

Simplify Making Lunches

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 by admin

Get rid of clutter in your lifeThis week we are streamlining and simplifying to get rid of clutter. Here is a great tip if you pack lunches for yourself or your family:

Rather than doing the same thing over every morning prepare items in advance. For instance, if you pack crackers or cookies buy a large package and transfer serving sizes all at one time to small baggies. This will save a lot of time. Put these in a plastic bin or basket that can be simply pulled out in the morning and items selected. The same thing can be done for items that need to be refrigerated such as grapes, baby carrots, and fruit.

What do you do to get rid of clutter and simplify making lunches?

Clearing Clutter In Your Closet

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 by admin

Clearing clutter in your closetThis week I want to talk about simplifying and streamlining to clear clutter. We are all busy doing what we like to do and with all our “to do lists”, meetings, obligations, shopping, food preparation and a zillion other things we have to do, not to mention exercise and hobbies by streamlining and simplifying what we do and what we have in our homes clearing clutter will become easier.

Let’s talk closets today: It is soon going to be the time of year to switch out seasonal clothes from Summer clothes to warmer clothes. If you have so many clothes in your closet that you can’t find anything to wear or you don’t like what you have here is a tip on how to clear clutter in your closet:

•Take stock of what clothes you own. Take everything out of your closets and drawers. Anything that doesn’t fit or that you never wear or you don’t feel fabulous wearing donate so you only keep what you wear. Your drawers and closets will be free of clutter so you can see what you have and what you need to purchase.
•When buying shoes, belts, purses or other accessories purchase pieces that will go with a number of outfits rather than with just one outfit.
•Organize clothes either by hanging complete outfits together or by type such as pants, skirts, dresses, and blouses together etc.

Do you need to simplify your closet? Is it arranged to save you time and frustration? What nifty tip do you have that has helped you clear clutter in your closet?

Marilyn's TV Spot: Clutter Control For Kids School Papers

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 by admin

Clutter control for your kids school papersI was in for the shock of my life yesterday. On Thursday I had been asked by a producer to be on a radio show on Monday. (At least that is what I thought I was being asked to do).

When we got to the studio on Monday morning I found out that I was scheduled to be on T.V. with Debbie Worthen and Ron Byrd two popular weather and news personalities here in Salt Lake City.

I was told to set up my things—which was news to me as I had no clue I was to have visuals as I thought it was radio. My business assistant, camera women and I hurried and scrambled and we pulled together visuals and a great show. It was on “clutter control for all the papers kids will start bringing home from school”. The segment went off without a hitch and Ron even took my camera and took an impromptu photo of us for facebook while we were on air.

Have you ever had a shock that you weren’t prepared for such as out-of- town company or life throwing you a curve? Did you wish you had been better prepared and gotten rid of the clutter in your home as you had been meaning to do?

When this happens to you I recommend the first thing to do is to get others to help you. Have confidence in yourself because even when life throws us curves we can count on others and we will rise to the occasion. It can actually be fun!

What kind of shock have you had that required team work and big deep breaths—along with some chocolate after it was all said and done?

Help Kids Get Organized For School

Monday, August 24th, 2009 by admin

Clutter control for kidsSchool is starting in our neck of the woods next week. I always loved the feel of the first day of school. I am sure it is different in every part of the world but for me it has always had a special feeling. Here is a tip to help your kids get organized for school.

Use wider shoe shelf organizers that hang over closet rods. Use one for clothes and the other one for items to take on specific school days. Label each shelf with the day of the week. On Sunday help your child organize for the week.

In one shelf organizer put the clothes to be worn each day, school socks, sport socks, undies, uniform, etc.

In the other organizer put school items that are needed on specific days, music book, swim suit, sport clothes etc.

If there are notes to return to school or special instructions they are placed in the specific day’s shelf.

This eliminates looking for clothes or forgetting important school items. What tips do you have to help children organize for school and avoid the hassle that mornings can bring?

Fabric Storage Tip

Friday, August 21st, 2009 by admin

Clutter control for your fabric I’m a professional organizer, and a quilter. Need I say more? Both of these are my passions. Today I have an organizing tip for my quilting readers.

When you purchase fabric, label each piece with paper or masking tape. On the label, write the amount, date, where you bought it and what project it is for if it was purchased for a specific reason. (Other than to increase your stash and that it was on sale).

Now you won’t have to measure every time you want to use the piece and you’ll know the location if you wish to buy more. If your local store is out of the very fabric you can probably find it on line.

Clutter Control Light Blub Moment

Thursday, August 20th, 2009 by admin

Clutter control for your home and lifeDo you ever feel like a light bulb just turns on when you are organizing? I was doing clutter control last week for what felt like the umpteenth time on the same shelf.

In a closet I have stacks of quilts and I have never been satisfied with the way I organized it. They were just folded and stacked. The quilts weren’t together by type and when I would get one down many would come tumbling down. Frustrating to say the least! Sound familiar to anyone?

That is when I had my light bulb moment. “Put them in containers and label them”. (I almost said DUH). Problem solved. I know what I have and when I get one out they won’t all come out. I labeled the containers on 3 X 5 cards and pinned them just to the cloth container. It will be easy to change quilts from container to container as needed. (When I give some away, or I make more).

Clutter control accomplished! I just feel so accomplished. What light bulb moment have you had that you will share with us?

Breaking From Clearing Clutter

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 by admin

Clearing clutter in your home and lifeSummer is almost over and I hope you have had a great one. Our grandchildren were here for a week and we went to our county fair. The most fun was feeding the goats and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces when the animals lick their little hands as they feed them.

No clutter clearing was done while the kids were here—sometimes it is just good to take a break isn’t it?

We took lots of photos and as a surprise we are making a simple little memory book to give to their parents so they can see how much fun the kids had at grandma’s home.

What did you do this summer (besides clearing clutter) that was fun?

Are You In A Rut When It Comes To Getting Rid of Clutter?

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 by admin

Clutter control for your homeAre you in a rut when it comes to getting rid of clutter? A rut isn’t necessarily a bad thing unless it holds you back from your goals and keeps you from being the best that you can and want to be.

Do you despair because you just don’t have enough time to clear clutter in your home? Sometimes it is just the little things that make a big difference. Take a look at this before and after picture.

Getting rid of clutter in your homeIt was easy to get rid of clutter by just moving a few things from the fridge. The important reminders were transferred to a planner so they really got done. The paper star was put in a resource file along with the instructions on how to make it for future reference. I just love how easy it is to file paper and find it again using the FreedomFiler system.

How does your fridge look? Is it time to get out of a rut and get rid of clutter? Do you like putting things on your fridge…or are you the kind that doesn’t like anything on the fridge?
