Product Review Friday

Friday, January 29th, 2010 by admin

Clearing clutter from your life with a professional organizerI really, really, really like this bag. I am shocked I haven’t done a product review on it before! This is one of those bags that can be taken into any store and used for whatever you purchase instead of using their plastic sacks. (Is is bags or sacks? I think it depends on what part of the country you live in).

I have at least 9 (or more) other plastic bags that I can use when I go shopping and they are great too. My problem is I forget to get them out of the trunk of the car so I moved them to the back seat—still I forget them, so I moved them to the passenger seat—I still forget them. They get buried under other stuff I have in the car. Or I simply don’t look over and grab them.

This little bag is the best solution I have found.
Clearing clutter with a professional organizer
•It is small and it fits in my purse so I always have it with me
•Fabric is washable
•I don’t have to remember to take it in with me!
•It holds a lot
•I don’t have to remember to take it back to the car after I unpack the groceries! And that’s a real plus when it is 25 degrees out.
•Not having to use the grocery sacks from the store has helped get rid of clutter.
Now, if I buy a lot of groceries the two I carry in my purse isn’t enough—but it is a start. I bought this one at Bath and Body Works for $2.00. I have seen them (even smaller) at Wall mart (but not as pretty) and my daughter picked up the cutest one in Canada. Just look around by the check stands to get your compact, recycle bag (sack).

How have you solved the problem of remembering to take your “use over and over” bags from the car to the store? Don’t you feel great when you use them to get rid of clutter?

Your Amazing–You Deserve A Pat On Your Back!

Clearing clutter from your home, office and lifeGive yourself a pat on your back today for all the efforts you have made to clear clutter in your home and life! Saturday we went to an appreciation brunch as we’re docents for The Heritage Foundation. This organization educates and works to preserve old buildings in Utah. It feels good when someone appreciates what we do.

I think we all need to appreciate the things we do to make our lives better when we clear clutter. It is something that happens over and over again and we are constantly (in a good way) working to eliminate clutter in our lives.

Let’s face it, we can’t stay organized, but we can keep organized. I want you to look at your successes in clearing clutter and give yourself a big pat on your back!! Be happy with what you have done no matter how small you think it has been!

Will you share with us a success you have had?

Clearing Clutter Is A Perfect Ending To A Bad Beginning

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 by admin

Clearing clutter from your home, office and lifeAs you know I was all in a panic at not being able to find that elusive quilt block. Halleluiah I found it! I even remember exactly why I put it where I put it.

I had placed it by the side of the filing cabinet so it would be almost in plain sight and it would remind me to work on it and also I foolishly thought I could find it fast.

The only thing I can console myself with is in the process of looking I was also getting rid of clutter. I reminded myself that everything has a home and when not being used the item needs to live in their own place or home. If I had made a home for this block it would have lived with my other fabric which was about 14 ½ inches away. (Yet hours away as I hunted for it).

As a professional organizer getting rid of clutter is important to me and those I work with. It makes us feel liberated from stuff, happy, feeling in control and it gives us a sense of peace. I can tell you hunting for something lost has the reverse effect.

How do you feel when you get rid of clutter? Do you miss it?

Where Is Irreplaceable Quilt Block Hiding?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 by admin

Clearing clutter in your home, office and lifeI have lost a very important quilt block. So…for Show N’ Share Tuesday I decided I would search every drawer and cupboard in my sewing room until I found it. In the process I was able to get rid of clutter. I started by taking everything out in a couple of drawers. I sorted and had a great time as I made piles for donate, trash and belongs else ware.

Clearing clutter in your home, office and lifeThis was so much fun—there I go again having fun getting rid of clutter. The reason it was fun was because it helped me downsize getting rid of things I don’t need. And it refreshed my memory as to what I do have.

As a professional organizer I have been teaching classes on downsizing to seniors but in reality we can all use downsizing whether we are planning on moving or staying in our own homes.

Sad to say I haven’t found the block and I only have one more place to look. I’ll keep you posted.

Rich Diversity When Using Timer to Clear Clutter

Friday, January 22nd, 2010 by admin

Clear clutter from your home, office and lifeToday is product review day. One of my favorite organizing products is a simple little timer. This little product has saved me from more burnt cookies that I can even say but when I organize and clear clutter this is how I use it:

•I work faster (sometimes) when I clear clutter and make a game of “beating the timer”.
•Set for a certain length of time it helps us not to get burnt out by working too long on a project as we clear clutter. Clearing clutter can be both emotional and physical experience.
•When the timer dings it gives me permission to stop without feeling guilty. And that is a good feeling.
•A biggie for me is that I set it to remind me to get ready for appointments. I get busy and even though I know I need to leave I forget. Setting my timer has been my life saver.

I do like the timers that time more than one thing at once. I can be organizing and baking something at the same time but need two different times set.

I have a friend who went to an hour lecture on how to use a timer. I can’t imagine a whole hour; I must be missing some good ideas. What do you use your timer for?

Clear Clutter and Have Fun Too

Thursday, January 21st, 2010 by admin

Clear clutter from your home, office and lifeOn January the 12th which was Show ‘N Share Tuesday I showed how I had gotten rid of clutter in my in box in my office. Edna wrote and asked if I would elaborate a little on how I see it as “fun”. She asked, “Is there fun, before, during and of course after? If it is approached as “fun” is their a more likelihood of completing the desired goal much faster? hum!!!!”

Actually I didn’t approach it as though it would be fun. I set my goal which was to get my in box completely cleared out. I set a reasonable goal of when I thought I could have it accomplished. It took a little longer that I had anticipated, but that was o.k. because I could see progress and any time I am doing something to get rid of clutter makes me happy.

And I found getting rid of clutter was a fun project because of the way I felt as I saw the paper pile shrinking. It was also fun to me because everything had a designated home and so it was easy to take care of it. (I just had to schedule the time to do it).

And to see the end result was fun because of the way it looked, the way I felt and that it was done. I don’t get discouraged if something is taking longer than I wanted it to, I just keep my eye on my goal and sometimes the reward I’ll get when it is done.

Show 'N Tell Tuesday for Solid Clutter Control

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 by admin

Clutter control for the kitchen In all the places you have been in the world where would you revisit? My choice would be Italy because of all the beautiful things there and I liked the “old world feeling” in the Cinque Terra.

I am not heading to Italy any time soon but I did revisit my “pantry”. It is more like a glorified cupboard it is so small. is easy when revisiting organized cupboards, closets etc. about every 3 to 5 months to get rid of clutter that has found its Clutter controlway into these spaces.

Clutter control for the kitchen Because I do try to keep the pantry organized there were just small things I had to do to get rid of clutter. Some of the cans that I had too many of for this space I took to the storage room. I put all soups back together. I rearranged the bottom shelves so they could hold items that belong there.

I tossed some old cereal and checked expiration dates. Just by spending 7 to 10 minutes clutter control was so easy to do as it hadn’t gotten out of control.

What is your favorite secret to clutter control?

Swift Snip Cleared Clutter

Clutter control for your home, office and life Do you remember when shoulder pads were in for women’s clothing? They have not been in for a long time but I had a hanger-on that I wear. I have a sweater with the smallest little shoulder pads and every time I put it on I would have to arrange them so they would lie flat. And I would think, “I should cut these out”.

Well, after going through this routine about 30 times (give or take a few) I put it on today and took it off so I could cut them out. The results are the sweater looks better and it actually fits better and feels better.

Hum—do we do this same thing with our clutter? Do you have something that you look at and you think you want to get rid of the clutter but somehow don’t do it? Clutter control can be easier when we recognize it is a problem and we do something about it right then.

Do you have a place in your home that needs clutter control?

Clear Clutter with Cosmetic Stax Product Review

Friday, January 15th, 2010 by admin

Clear clutter in your home, office and lifeI am not the kind of person who likes to rummage around and find my cosmetics all jumbled up. (After all that takes time and that is time I could be organizing or quilting–don’t you agree?). That is why I have used cosmetic containers for years. They clear clutter because everything has a place and everything is in their place.

I recommend them because:
•They are clear
•They keep things separated
•Items are easy to see
•It limits the amount of things I can keep in a drawer
•I never have to clear clutter in drawers I have these in because everything just stays organized
