Can I take a peek in your drawers?

These photos say it all but you know me I still have to add my two cents worth……

I love transforming junk drawers into resource drawers. I know I have shared this with you before but I have another good example of how to get rid of clutter, reclaim your space and be happy all at the same time.

Just looking at this before and after makes me want to say—ah-h-h-h. Now everything in the drawer belongs here. Containers keep things together and contained and they also help so it won’t revert to a junk drawer again.

Get rid of clutter fast and easy starting with one drawer at a time.

Indulge Yourself With Clutter Control On Fridge

Monday, January 30th, 2012 by admin

Monday’s  Clutter Control Focus:

What is on the outside of your fridge? How many magnets do you have? How many ads? How many phone numbers? How many sticky notes? How much outdated information is hanging out on your fridge?

Does your fridge need clutter control?  I’m just asking, no need to stone me. Take a look—a good look and what do you actually see?

This is a photo of my fridge. All three magnets are from my daughters and have meaning to me. One is from the Issaquah fair in Washington, the other a special New Year’s tea this year that Cindy had for us and the other one is over 20 years old and is from Oregon.

Does this focus strike a chord in you and you are itching to do some clutter control? Or is your fridge as clean as a whistle? Or is it cluttered and you like it just the way it is?

Grass Gives New Meaning To Clutter Control (Or Does It)

Friday, January 27th, 2012 by admin

The Cupboard, a kitchen store in Ft. Collins Colorado is a must store for us to visit when we are there. I found some of the cutest organizing products to help with clutter control for Friday product review:

However every website I wrote down didn’t have the product I saw in the store—strange.

I was not to be deterred in my quest for a product to help with clutter control and my search lead me to this “Grass Charging Station”. I am laughing as I type just looking at this—needless to say it is unique.

This is what they say about it: “Hide messy charging cables with a patch of grassy lawn. Simply run a standard extension cable into the bottom of the base, plug in all of your power adapters, then snake the charging cables up through the grass.  Works with any small device with a charging cable.”

It usually ships in 2-3 business days and costs $32.00.

This gives new meaning to clutter control don’tchathink?

Carefree Tortoise Never Gave Up

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 by admin

“Ninety percent of all who fail are not actually defeated. They simply quit.”

—Paul J. Meyer

Wow—this really struck me. Never quit on de-cluttering your home or getting rid of clutter. Keep on keeping on. I work with many women who have become discouraged about clutter in their homes because of family, health or other reasons yet they never gave up. (They may have stopped for awhile but they never quit).

Life happens and our focus changes as things come along. Getting rid of clutter can seem like a thankless task sometimes but it is absolutely worth it for peace of mind and in the end it makes we feel better.

I always say go slow and take tiny tortoise steps. A friend of mine who had some health problems asked if there is anything slower that tortoise steps when getting rid of clutter. (That made me smile) I don’t think so as they are pretty slow—have you ever watched a tortoise? If you know of something slower please let me know so I can share it.

On the days you need to go slower than a tortoise just do it that is o.k. too.

I am watching a most addictive BBC series “Lark Ford to Candlerise” every chance I get. It is the story of two different villages and the story has me mesmerized as well as the terrific and believable acting of every single character. Dorcas–one of the main characters is always saying “this is my ‘one’ weakness” (she has about 15 by now).

Wouldn’t it be nice if clutter control was our ‘one’ weakness? And what better place that could happen than over the fridge. This is another flat surface that seems to have magnets on it to attract all sorts of things.

Clutter control was fast and simple over this fridge—it was a matter of finding homes for everything and eliminating things that didn’t belong.

Do you have a secret for clutter control over your fridge? I have a plant on mine, a basket for paper and pens (since I don’t have drawers in my kitchen) and the kitchen phone. These are all necessities and they leave no room for anything else.

Unhurried Clutter Clearing For Monday Focus

Monday, January 23rd, 2012 by admin

Finally—we got a really good snow storm. I feel like I have been waiting all winter for this. Just down two blocks from my home there were major crashes that a neighbor filmed and put on YouTube. If you want to watch it just search Bountiful 400. We feel it is a miracle no one was injured!

Monday’s Focus is a bit less dramatic that 9 plus (I lost count) cars wrecking. But it can be important nevertheless. Take a peek in your over the door shoe rack. For me it was time to do some clutter clearing.

I peeked in one of the holders and I found 3 lids that go to my hair spray. I only need one when I travel. I also found some instructions to my Sonic Care brush that I have been using for a few years—if I don’t know how to use it now I never will.

Take a peek in yours—do you use it for a shoe rack? If so are there shoes you need to donate or toss, do you use it in the bathroom, do you too need to do some clutter clearing?

It is kinda fun clutter clearing in all the little pockets. What did you find in your pockets?

Nifty Organizing Product To Get Rid Of Clutter

Saturday, January 21st, 2012 by admin

I just spend 12 days in Colorado at my daughter’s home. As I stepped into her entry way it looked different than I had seen it before. She had gotten rid of a lot of shoe clutter. This is the product she used to get rid of clutter. It is from IKEA.  They have several different styles. If you want to get rid of shoe clutter check these out this and other organizers at IKEA.

In the past she had a basket for shoes to go in and then a rack on the floor. But no matter what she tried they became scattered and “clutterly” (is that a word?) looking.

Her entry way is so inviting now.  She put the boots in a nearby closet and they only use this shoes they use every day.

This is a great organizing product and it is so charming I wish I had a place for it in my home.

What do you use at your front door to corral shoes? You can send me a photo if you want and I will post it on a future blog.

P.S. The winners who shared their stories with us are Edna and Pantha. Check your mail boxes—I am sending you a little surprise for sharing your story with us—thank you.

P.S.S. I don’t know what happened to yesterday’s blog—only one line showed up.  HUM  I will post it next week again and hope that it all shows up.

4 Down-Home Ideas For Clearing Clutter The Easy Way

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 by admin

“Plan to organize the room when you won’t encounter distractions”.—From “Go Organize” By Marilyn Bohn

Is this so simple at first glance that you said “Well Duh?” But this is not always as simple as it seems. How on earth do I find the time as a working woman, mother, wife, friend etc., etc., etc. you may be asking. Clearing clutter doesn’t have to be complicated or take big chinks of time.

Here are 4 tips to get your ideas flowing—-

  • Get up 30 minutes earlier
  • Use little pockets of time during the day instead of leaving it all to do “when you have the time”.
  • Swap child care for a few hours a week with a friend.
  • When the family is involved with chores or TV or whatever organize a drawer or a cupboard.

Clearing clutter can be more quickly accomplished when you’re not tied to the phone or worrying about other things. Calendar time just for yourself to organize in little segments of time.

Do you do this already?

Are you inundated with toys?  Now I know many of you reading this are past that stage where you have to deal with toys but many more are still in that stage in their life. Clutter clearing when it comes to toys is very liberating.

Look at these before and after photos—isn’t it wonderful?  We were able to get all of the toys sorted (way to go (I’ll call her) Rebekah!!!) and some of the toys were taken away and put in storage for the youngest child when he grows up.

Toy storage clutter clearing tips:

  • Remove those the children don’t play with anymore—donate or recycle.
  • Store toys for younger siblings in well marked bins for later use.
  • Recycle any toys that can’t be repaired.
  • Recycle or donate toys that you can’t stand having around—those with too much noise or too many little parts—you (the adult) is in charge.

What is your secret to clutter clearing toys ?
