“If I’ve told you once I’ve told you a thousand times”
–Just about every mother I have ever known

Does getting your family to clear clutter seem like this to you? May I suggest a different idea? Teach, train, follow through and assist family members in learning how to clear clutter.

To us it may seem so simple—yet it must not be or we wouldn’t have to tell them a “thousand times”.

What has been your most successful idea on getting your family to clear clutter?

Instant Stuffed Animals Storage Solution

Getting Rid of Clutter Product Review:

Here is another clever organizing tip to get rid of clutter which is very inexpensive:

Attach a Velcro strip to the wall to attach soft toys to. I am always being asked “how do I store stuffed animals”? This is a clever way to decorate the walls and get the toys out of the way. Several strips could be attached one above the other.

Velcro is a brand name but any hook and loop tape would work. Buy it at a hardware or fabric store.

HAPPY St. Patrick’s Day to you tomorrow. Be sure to wear the green to avoid being pinched. Does your country have this tradition?

Get Rid Of Clutter Product Review:

This is the coolest product—I was in my client’s home and we were chatting about organizing solutions for her cluttered closet. (Her words, not mine). She said she knew she needed to get rid of the clutter but didn’t know what to do with all the things that needed to be kept in the closet such as back packs her children brought home from school.

This is the solution she came up with, a back pack rack from Amazon. I declare if someone needs an organizing product all they have to do is search and low and behold there will be a solution to get rid of clutter. I didn’t even know this was ‘out there’, thank you Rebekah.

Flair For Clearing Clutter

“You don’t get harmony when everybody sings the same note”.

–Doug Floyd

I am sad to say one of my talents is not singing on tune. (Is that how I say I sound horrible when I try to sing?) I can hear it in my head but it doesn’t come out the same.

Harmony is such a beautiful thing in music but it takes many different notes to make it. Is that how it is with clearing clutter? I think it is—we try many different things and many different ways to find our style when clearing clutter.

Sometimes it means giving our family members a break if they don’t clear clutter “our way”. Or we try something and it works and then later we improve on it. How fun this clearing clutter journey is. What do you think?

Show ‘N Share Tuesday:

Are you inundated with toys?  Now I know many of you reading this are past that stage where you have to deal with toys but many more are still in that stage in their life. Clutter clearing when it comes to toys is very liberating.

Look at these before and after photos—isn’t it wonderful?  We were able to get all of the toys sorted (way to go (I’ll call her) Rebekah!!!) and some of the toys were taken away and put in storage for the youngest child when he grows up.

Toy storage clutter clearing tips:

  • Remove those the children don’t play with anymore—donate or recycle.
  • Store toys for younger siblings in well marked bins for later use.
  • Recycle any toys that can’t be repaired.
  • Recycle or donate toys that you can’t stand having around—those with too much noise or too many little parts—you (the adult) is in charge.

What is your secret to clutter clearing toys ?

Clever Way To Declutter Your Home

Declutter Your Home Show ‘N Share Tuesday:

Look at this clever way to declutter your home. I was organizing with a woman and we were doing a walk through her home and when I saw this great organizing idea. I immediately asked her if I could share this clever idea with my readers.

To contain her hair clips she has organized them on belts she no longer uses and hangs them from a ring placed on a hook.  This is much better than the clips taking up a few drawers and being all jumbled together.

Thank you Casandra for sharing with us this smart way to declutter your home!

Important Tips To Help Children Declutter

Thursday, August 4th, 2011 by admin

At rug hooking the other night the first thing one of the mothers said was, “Yeah! Only 20 more days until school starts”. She has enjoyed the summer with her children but it is time for school to start. Can anyone reading this relate?

When the kidos are back in school life gets hectic—especially the first few weeks when all the supplies are being bought and everyone is settling in.

Here are some tips to teach your children how to declutter their rooms before the new clothes and the school supplies are put in their rooms.

Teach your child what it means to you to be organized and have a clutter free room. Walk around their room with them and look in the drawers, in the closet and under the bed. Show them where it is organized and what needs to be organized and how to do it.

Let them know that de-cluttering means to get rid of anything they don’t use, really like, or that makes them feel good when they see it. Everything else is clutter.

If you don’t have kids to teach look around—is there something you want to de-clutter someplace in your home?

Pepsi Awarded Legos Project!

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011 by admin

Do you remember a month ago I asked if you would vote for a Lego’s project for my friend who needed the Pepsi grant? It is a project to help her child and other children with developmental challenges. She won! Thank you to my blog readers who voted. They were awarded $1,000 which will cover the cost of the Lego’s and training.

After the voting was over she sent this email:

Thanks, Marilyn!  This is just amazing to me!  A local group just had a motorcycle ride fundraiser and they raised $3400 and are donating it to my group!  Can you believe it? I cannot get over how much support we are getting!  And so many parents are writing to me because they want their kids to join!  It’s going to be incredible and will help a lot of kids!

It all started with her applying for the Pepsi grant. I wanted to share with you that a little help goes a long way and to say  Thank you!

Clear Clutter Show ‘N Share Tuesday

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 by admin

Show ‘N Share Tuesday is in a child’s room. We needed to clear clutter in this room and it didn’t take a lot of time. Just making the bed made a huge difference. The dust ruffle is slippery and is always dragging on the floor. By pulling the bed out to tug it back in place we found a treasure trove of clutter. There were socks, toys, books and sippy cups.

It is a good idea to pull out the bed once in awhile to see if there is a need to clear clutter and maybe you’ll find that treasured toy. Sometimes you can’t see things from the front side of the bed.

Toys were put where they belong—they have homes but weren’t living in their homes. Dirty clothes were put in a hamper.

Tips to clear clutter in child’s room:
•Place a hamper in the room for dirty clothes.
•Before the child has story time before bed have them pick up and put away toys that have been played with that day.
•Teach the child to make their bed every day.

By training a child to keep their room organized and free of clutter is a real gift you can give them that will last a life time.
