Getting Rid Of Clutter In Seconds

Show ‘N Share Tuesday

I have been organizing up a storm, getting rid of clutter and offering clutter control tips. I get so excited I forget to take before pictures until about the time we are almost done. However I wanted to share with you this photo of my cute kitty and my organized project basket.

I am making my daughter a double wedding ring quilt for her wedding which is in November. We are very excited for her as she has found her soul mate. (She is 39 and has never been married and neither has he). I spent all morning cutting out the quilt (There is more to go but this is the first stage). I organized everything in this basket. Then along came Menina and I couldn’t do anything as she was lying on top of everything.

I got her a basket and put some wool in it—she loves lying on wool even though my sewing room is 84 degrees. I just don’t get it as wool is not actually that cool to the touch. She likes being near me while I sew.

I always use project baskets for clutter control and it does away with the frustration of losing parts of my projects. Do you use project baskets? What kind of projects do you have going on?

As I keep on sewing on this quilt I will share my progress with you.

Refreshing Look At Clearing Clutter

Clearing Clutter Show ‘N Share:

We went to a friend’s home for a few hours of sewing/quilting time and she showed us her beautiful sewing room and organized sewing closet.

She is very organized to say the least. Look at all of these containers labeled and stacked perfectly. Notice too that along with all her necessities she has included fun decorative items that light her up and make her happy.

Along with getting organized and clearing clutter always have things that light you up, make you happy and put a smile on your face and make you feel good.

Thank you Karen for sharing with us!

Awesome Craft Space Helps Get Rid Of Clutter

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 by admin

So you are a crafter but don’t have room for your crafts?  We went to Shepherds Bush open house last Saturday and they had a sweet little make and take. We made cute little gift tags. As we were doing this Kari who gave us instructions said since the birth of her baby 2 months ago her sewing/craft room was converted to a nursery.

She had to get rid of clutter and consolidate all her crafts and scrap booking supplies to make room for baby.

Here is one clever way a friend of mine made room for her crafts. She uses a sturdy moveable shelf unit. She has everything categorized and has made homes for everything. Recently she said it was a disaster so she took a few hours and got rid of clutter and reorganized everything. It is in the guest room as it is only used a couple of times a year. When guests come she just drops the curtain and everything is hidden. Thanks for showing us your clever organizing system.

How about your craft room? Do you need to get rid of clutter or is it just right? (As Goldilocks would say).

Old Shelf Makes Clutter Clearing Fun

Clutter Control Show ‘N Share Tuesday:

I mentioned in another blog I was walking down the street early on garbage collection day last week and poking out of a garbage can was this blue shelf. I opened the lid and took it out. It was in good shape so I hid it in the bushes to pick up on my way back. (Like anyone would be prowling for a shelf at 5:00 a.m.).

I had been wanting a shelf in my sewing room because things I had in there looked crowded which gave it a cluttered look. So really this shelf helped me in clutter clearing.

Look at it now—My husband sanded, I sprayed it white and ran sand paper over it. One peg was missing—but how perfect because that made me think of these cute and interesting knobs I had tucked away waiting for the perfect place to use them.

Who said clutter clearing isn’t fun and creative? Do you have a project you have done that is a bit different and it turned out that it made more room for the things you have?

What do these three art forms have in common?  Embroidery, counted cross, and punch needle? The answer is…they all use embroidery floss. My daughter used to do a plethora of counted cross stitch which is absolutely intricate and gorgeous. Now she doesn’t do anything with floss so she gave me all of hers.

For a year I had it jumbled in a bag (as she gave it to me) and I would have to dump everything out every time I wanted to choose a color. But no more! On our trip to Colorado when I wasn’t driving I was winding the floss onto these little floss keepers. Clutter clearing was fun because I know the time I will be saving when I need floss. And even though it doesn’t take up less space it is organized.

I used time that I couldn’t be doing something else so not only was I clutter clearing but saving time at the same time.

Do you have a craft you need to do some clutter clearing organization?

Show ‘N Share Clearing Clutter Tuesday:

There is a song that says: “There is beauty all around when there’s love at home”.

I say: There is beauty all around when there are beautiful rugs on the floor. This is a beautiful hooked rug my daughter finished a few weeks ago. From the planning stage to the binding stage it took her about 5 months.

During the process of creating this rug rooms were cluttered. First the guest room where the wool was pulled from the bins, later laying it out doing more planning and then it moved into the family room. There was the wool cutter, the strips of wool, stacks of wool and more. I didn’t think to take a photo of all the clutter—you will just have to trust me there was clutter everywhere, on the couches, tables and floor.

She got busy clearing clutter as she progressed with the hooking and didn’t need as many supplies out. Then a total make over when she was finished and the rooms were put back to normal.

Clearing clutter is sometimes a slow process, in fact I encourage going slow so we don’t get discouraged or burnt out. The end result is worth the process of planning, setting goals and then doing until it is done.

Clutter Clearing Feel-Good Tuesday

Show N Share Clutter Clearing Tuesday—

Last week I shared my tail of woe about my batting being “all over the place” in my closet and I told you what I was going to do about it. Just take a look at this now! I took my “assignment” of clutter clearing my closet very seriously and I worked on it a bit every day and then a lot on Saturday. I couldn’t believe how long it took me.

Is it like that for you too—you under estimate how long it will take you to get something done? I found some things I had forgotten I have. Now all my pieces of batting are contained and labeled with the size. I went through the bin of Christmas fabric and decided what I am going to do with it. (Quilts for Christmas—imagine that).

This pile of fabric I am giving away. That feels good too to give this to someone who can use it and I’m clearing space in my closet at the same time. I will never miss it. I did have the thought, “but fabric is so expensive now maybe I should keep it even though I am sure I will never use it and I don’t really care for it”.  That was certainly a self defeating thought and I resisted it.

This clutter clearing makes me feel soooooooooo good; I have go to my closet and just look at it every now and then it looks so good. Does that mean I’m a geek?

When clutter clearing, make a goal, work at it a little at a time, stand back and admire your progress. Tell us what you are doing and how it feels.

Get Rid Of Clutter EASILY On Show ‘N Share Tuesday

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 by admin

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this closet is beautiful. Well, not really beautiful but it is clutter free which makes me happy. Today is Show ‘N Share Tuesday so I’m showing the end result of my clutter clearing moment.

As you know I always say, “even though you have organized a place or space you need to go back periodically (about every 3 months even though I don’t actually keep track) and revisit that space”. A good rule of thumb is to do it before you think it needs reorganizing.

I don’t have a before photo (I wish I did as this actually looks MUCH better) but I did get rid of clutter which I didn’t even know I had. The best part was I “found” a piece of fabric I had forgotten I had. I am going to make a quilt for the bone marrow transplant unit of a local hospital with it. A big thanks to my neighbor and friend Carolyn who will machine quilt it.

What organized space do you have in your home that you can revisit? You too may be surprised that you can get rid of clutter. Or maybe it is still totally organized—let us know.

Getting Rid Of Clutter Blesses Others

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010 by admin

I am always talking about getting rid of clutter and this is a timely tip from a faithful reader. (Thank you Lynn)

“I periodically ‘purge’ my craft supplies.  I donate the items to a local Assisted Living Facility.  The Activities Director really appreciates all kinds of craft supplies so that the residents can make items to be sold at their bi-annual bazaar (one in the Spring and one shortly before Christmas).

Another thing the Activities Director tells me she needs regularly are bags for gifts….she’s happy to have birthday bags, holiday bags because all residents will receive a little birthday remembrance and a holiday gift from the Assisted Living Facility.  Tissue paper is always appreciated to go into the bags.

The Activities Director has a beautifully designed storage room with plenty of shelving, boxes for sorting items by holiday, event, etc.  I had a collection of lighted Easter Houses which I didn’t plan to use/decorate with anymore and what a treasure it was for her to have….the facility decorates tables in the corridors with ’seasonal’ items for residents to enjoy as they pass by, so the Easter Houses were just great!

They love magazines and books too for the library.  Anything is appreciated, because the Activities Director shops thrift and dollar stores for necessities for the department.  A piece of a ball of yarn may not be needed by me, but it may be just what she needs for a resident to finish a project.

They love wine bottle corks, canning jars, ribbons (they use a lot!) for their crafting.

Yes, I still take things to the thrift store to donate, but I always think of my favorite assisted living facility first”.

When you are getting rid of clutter here is another place you can donate your surplus to or the things you no longer need or use. This is a place I had never thought of donating to. How about you?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my daughter Debbie!!
