Clutter Clearing Handbook Extrodinaire

“We see them come,

We see them go.

Some are fast,

And some are slow.

Some are high. And some are low.

Not one of them

is like another.

Don’t ask us why,

Go ask your mother.”

—Dr. Seuss

I thought this cute thought from “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish” fit us all.

We all have different clutter and different clutter problems. That is why I wrote my second book. “The Easy Organizer”. I had the thought one day that most of my clients ask the same type of questions and wouldn’t it be nice if they had a handbook when I wasn’t with them to refer to to answer their organizing questions.

Of course nothing can replace me but it is a great resource. Some of us organize fast, some slow—either way is A-O.K.

Not one of us is like the other but we all are of one mind, we want to be organized and get rid of clutter.

Today Is A Good Day Cut Clutter

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013 by admin

“Only you can make your mind up! You’re the one and only one!—Hunches in Bunches from Dr. Seuss

Today is a good day to make your mind up to control clutter. I have 3 simple tips to control clutter—-

· When at the store and your thinking of buying something carry it around with you for 10 minutes. If after the end of 10 minutes you still must have it, they buy it.

· Ask yourself before buying something: Where will I put it? Do I have a use for it? Does it light me up?

· If you buy something that you want just because you want it and it doesn’t meet your criteria, when you get home let go of something else so you aren’t just bringing home clutter.

I have a trip planned in June so every time I think I want something I have seen in a catalog or at the store I remember my trip and consider if I want to save money for my trip or do I want to spend the money now.

This is a great way for me to control clutter. How about you? What are your tips to controlling clutter?

Monday Focus: Sunny Ideas For Dog De-Cluttering

Monday, March 25th, 2013 by admin

Monday Pet De-cluttering Focus:

I was contacted last Thursday by a writer for some ideas on how to de-clutter dog items. She was writing a column for Dog World. Or was it Pet World?  I don’t remember. I thought—-would this be a good focus for this week?

Items to de-clutter for your dog:

  • Toys that are old, broken or of no interest to your dog
  • Pet carriers or cages that are no longer used
  • Collars or harnesses that don’t fit
  • Leashes that don’t match, or are the wrong length or strength
  • Lumpy or soiled bedding, ratty blankets, frayed towels
  • Treats or food your dog doesn’t like or that you have stopped giving to them
  • Expired medications

I don’t have a dog but I do have a cat. It is simple to de-clutter her things because all she has is her food and my lap.  Whenever I sit down she comes from whatever room she was napping in to jump on my lap.  The little sweetie. She is over 11 years old and is not interested in playing with toys. She is one of the 25 to 30% that isn’t drawn to cat nip either.

Do you have a dog or a cat? Do you need to de-clutter their toys and things? How often do you do it?

Upgraded Cool Product Review To Cut Clutter

Organizing Product Review:

Whatever you call it—turntable or lazy Susan; it turns and is a great place for condiments or spices. I like this Linus platform turntable because it has a raised center. This helps tier items to better see what is stored. This particular one also has raised edges to keep them in place.

It is made of high-quality plastic and has stainless steel ball bearings. The cost is $17.99.

Looks like an attractive organizing product to me. It could be used in the kitchen or under a cupboard or on a shelf in the bathroom.

I use mine for spices and I love it—I have the traditional turntable at the moment.

Cut Clutter With The Password Keeper

Friday, June 29th, 2012 by admin

Product Review:

Computer hacking has been raised to an art form—therefore you don’t want to store your passwords in your computer. I have an exciting product to review today that is a password keeper so you won’t ever have to worry about your passwords being compromised ever again.

The author (and genius I have to say) of the book “The 5th Dimension Password Keeper” wrote me and asked if I would review this book. He sent it to me and the rest is history as they say. I recommend this book to EVERYONE who has passwords.

It states on the cover “it is the most secure password organizer in the world”. Some of the highlights:

  • Stores over 100 complex passwords with ease. (I have been using this book for the past three weeks and have secured all of my 60 plus passwords).
  • Passwords are safe even if the book is lost or stolen.
  • You will never have to keep your passwords in your computer again.
  • You will never use easy to crack passwords again—and what I like is not having to figure out secure passwords.

It only costs $9.95 and can be purchased at Barnes and Nobel or on Amazon.

I highly recommend this book! It is simple to use and the information is well written and invaluable. Thank you Michael E. Pipkins for writing this book and for introducing me to it.

Say “Yes” To Clutter Control

Thursday, June 28th, 2012 by admin

When my daughter Julie was only two weeks old I applied for her social security card. She has had to put up with a big problem with her card for Years as they put the wrong birth date on it and I didn’t catch it. She has had no end of problems with this. She may be able to correct her Social Security card but it is a long drawn out process that she just hasn’t taken the time to do. (I don’t blame her)

Do you have a problem spot when it comes to clutter? Is it something you did years ago or even more recent and it hasn’t been corrected? Could it be you resist getting rid of clutter?

This is a True Story in my life: I just recently realized a trouble spot for me is my ironing board. I think it is because it is a flat surface and it is always set up in my sewing room. It is so easy (as it is for many with any flat surface) to just place things on it instead of taking a few extra seconds and putting things where they belong. Once I started doing this I just kept on doing it.

I am committing right now, this very minute to change my ways. I am going to stop putting things there. I’ll report back in a couple of weeks and let you know how my clutter control on the ironing board is doing. (But first I have to go and get rid of the clutter that has accumulated there since this photo was taken).

Get Ready To Do Some Clutter Control

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012 by admin

“Real difficulties can be overcome; it is only the imaginary ones that are unconquerable”

—Theodore N. Vail (He was a U.S. telephone industrialist)

Wow! If we believed and acted on this when it comes to clutter control we would have it made don’t you think?

Instead of telling ourselves all sorts of stories of why we can’t get clutter under control. Things like:

  • But it was a gift and I can’t part with it (How long have you had it? Do you love it? Does it light you up?)
  • My husband or children will just mess it up again so why try?
  • I don’t have a home for everything

These may be all legitimate reasons for not getting clutter under control but are any of them as important as getting rid of the clutter to bring peace, harmony and more time in our lives? We have enough clutter in our lives without imagining it is unconquerable to get rid of it—-don’tchathink?
