Monday Focus Book Clutter Control

Monday, May 9th, 2011 by admin

Monday’s Clutter Control FOCUS is inspired by a faithful blog reader. We’ll call her Holly….

“BOOKS! There aren’t really all that many books that I really want to keep in my permanent collection to read again or for reference.

To cut back on book clutter I first go to the library, then I go to my favorite used book store where I can sell books back to them and buy ones I want for cheap”.

Thanks Holly, this is a good idea for clutter control.

Look through your book and see what ones you want to donate or sell to your local book store. Ours in my home town is called “The Secret Garden”. Clutter control is easier when you don’t have unwanted and unused stuff around.

Well, I am off to check my book cases. This is a Focus I need!

Clear Clutter Bug Hits Me In Time For Show ‘N Share Tuesday

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 by admin

I didn’t know I would “get a bug” to clear clutter so I don’t have a before photo of Tuesday’s Show ‘N Share. Just picture in your mind where you see space there were VHS tapes.

We had a VHS/DVD player. Last year the DVD part stopped working. Then I started having problems with the VHS part of the player and we couldn’t use it. I still just let it sit on the shelf under the TV. That is what I call clutter. After Christmas I “got the bug” to clear clutter so I unplugged the cords and out it went to recycle. Boy oh boy it sure feels good.

I figured without the VHS player there is no reason to hang on to the VHS tapes. As I was getting rid of them I lamented I would no longer have my favorite (which I haven’t actually watched in 10 years) “Gone With The Wind”. That is when it hit me, I had been holding on to movies I professed I would watch yet I didn’t. There are better ways to watch movies now—I am going to stream through Hulo and Netflix and there may be others I’m not aware of but I am going to find out. This will definitely clear clutter on my shelves and save me money.

Taking a deep breath I got rid of all the VHS tapes (it’s about time). I kept the family ones which I will have transferred to disk. It sure feels good to clear clutter—my shelves are practically empty and I actually feel lighter.

What clutter have you been holding on to that you can get rid of?

Today is also a holiday. I don’t think it is a day to reduce clutter, but a good day to play and do whatever you want to do. But then again, it is Labor Day so maybe it is a good day to reduce clutter. What do you think?

I have a guest blogger today. Since I just gave away this beautiful binder provided by Handstands.com it seems fitting to have Brittany who is a blogger for HandStands blog for my readers today.

Organize a DVD Collection or Stack of CD’s

“Real space saver, compact & convenient. Looks good with other surroundings”- quoted by a real customer on Overstock.com who purchased the Bellagio Italia CD/DVD Storage Binders.

We’ve received quite a bit of positive feedback on our CD/DVD Storage Binders as a way to Organize a DVD Collection or stack of CD’s over the past few years, much like the review from the Overstock customer above. When I first saw the storage binder, I wasn’t completely sold that it would make a substantial difference in “my” home. I have always been the type of person that didn’t mind having the original CD’s and DVD’s out on my bookshelves, as long as they were neatly arranged. I decided to give the binders a try to see if they really could reduce clutter in my house.

The storage binders hold up to 48 CD’s, DVD’s or Blu ray DVD’s and can be expanded to hold 60-72 discs with additional inserts. I quickly filled two binders with my DVD collection and discarded the original DVD packaging.

I did the same thing to my CD collection in another two binders. I used 4 black binders, even though they also come in brown and burgundy, to arrange all my discs, and set them nicely on the bookshelf.

One of our customer reviews remarked, “If you are looking for ways to store your CD’s and DVD’s in a decorative setting, this is the binder you are looking for.
The best thing about this binder is it looks like a book in my library; it is not too wide and it doesn’t extend beyond the size of other books”.-Amazon customer.

No matter if you are playing today or working on reducing clutter in your home I wish you a happy, fun and joyous day.
