Forget Clutter–Read "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peal Pie Society"

clutter control for your home and officeAre you having a day that you just aren’t accomplishing very much and you set your goal to get rid of clutter in your home? So you’re doing little of nothing and feeling guilty while doing it?

I say, just take the day off and don’t think about clutter. Instead get a good book and read it. When I went to Hawaii I took with me the book “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peal Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The only bad thing was it was such a good novel I finished it way too soon.

This book is a wonderful uplifting and poignant read. It is told through letters—don’t let that put you off it really is a wonderful little book. I was on the waiting list at my library for the CD for over 7 weeks. I finally bought the book the day it came out in paperback. And now I want everyone I know to read this book.

So after you read this go out and get the book and start reading. Just for today don’t think about getting rid of clutter. Or read a book of your choice—what book would you recommend for us to read?

Pill Bags Cut The Clutter When Traveling

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 by admin

Clutter control when travelingIn case you missed reading the comment from Ellen on my Organizing on The Go blog here is an excellent suggestion from her on how to pack all of your meds when you travel that will help with clutter control when on the road.

•Ellen from Calahan Solutions.com said:
“A new favorite bag is Ezy Dose(R) Pill Pouch. These little zip-close pill bags have a writable space to record the day of the week and whether the pills are for morning, evening or other. About half the size of snack-size plastic bags, they eliminate the need to take pill bottles or plastic daily reminder systems while traveling. At about 3 cents per bag, I save mine for reuse”.

She said she buys hers at Walgreens but they may be available at other stores that sell Ezy products. They also make other pill organizers.

Thank you for this timely clutter control tip. Summer is just around the corner and traveling will be made easier with these little pill bags.

Take Back Your Time

todolistI decided I am on over load. I have misplaced my notes from the NAPO conference in Reno, I go to a room and forget what I was going for and I have a new computer with new programs that I am trying to learn all at once and it just isn’t working.

I have a plan to get my time back and my mind back. I am not sure where they went but I have a plan. When I was in the doctor’s office (for allergies) yesterday I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish that day and then I numbered them in the order of their importance.
If I am having issues I am suspect you may be in the same boat as I am. Good thing we aren’t always here at the same time or not all the time.

1.Write a to -do list, cross the task off when done. Separate lists into a. Things to do and b. Appointments and c. Fun things to do. Do one fun thing and do a must do thing; rotate between the two to help stay motivated to do what you have to do. Or maybe do three must do and then one fun project.
2.Organize or clean up as you go. Wipe the counter as you cook, put things in the dishwasher rather than in the sink. Put things where they belong rather than piling them on the counter.
3.When you are in a room and things need to go to a different room stock pile them in a basket, bag or box and then take them all at once. The point is to save time.
4.We don’t have to do everything for everyone. Learn to say no and say it. Your time, family and well being are important.

By the way I got eight out of 13 things accomplished. But then I also got a zillion of other things done too. I decided to take advantage of the fact that tomorrow (now today) would be here and I could work on the tasks then. But it was such a good feeling to see my progress.

How about you? Do you ever feel you are working in circles getting nothing you want to get done actually done? Please share

yoga toesYogaToes—The perfect way to healthy, beautiful feet. Your feet need routine exercise to stay healthy and in shape. Improving your feet is as easy as wearing YogaToes while you relax!

•They relieve stress after a long day in shoes, they rejuvenate your feet.
•They help treat & prevent bunions, hammertoes, fatigue, poor circulation, and varicose veins
•Remarkable results shape, stretch, condition, align, strengthen, and stimulate.

YogaToes are made from a soft, flexible, hypo-allergenic, medical grade gel. Our friend who is a nurse saw ours and bought some for her toes. She thought the principle was sound that they do what they say they do.

I think they are fun to wear while watching a movie (at home) or doing something else relaxing. My feet do feel rejuvenated after I wear them for about 25 minutes. I forget they are even on.

If you want more information on them go to www.yogapro.com Let me know what you think.
