3 Sensible Tips For Clutter Control Everywhere

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 by admin

Show ‘N Share for Clutter Control:

This lovely laundry room became even lovelier when we did some serious clutter control. The table meant for folding can now be used at will because the piles of clothes have been removed and put in their place. One of the containers was labeled so the hand wash doesn’t get mixed up with the other clothes.

In the cupboards there are washing supplies, emergency supplies, and now cat supplies. All are organized by category and in terms of how easy it is to retrieve what is most often used and needed. One thing we did was simply adjusting the shelves.

When doing clutter control in any area keep in mind:

  • What do I use most often—keep these items where they can be easily accessed and returned.
  • Teach your family what your goals are and get their commitment to help keep it clutter free.
  • Use suitable containers.

This is a laundry room in progress—several containers will come to live to keep the items in the cupboards in their own space.

Does your laundry room light you up? Does it need clutter control or is it just the way you want it? About once every two weeks I find that I have to tidy mine up and remove sneaky things that have come to live there that don’t belong.

Gurgle, Slosh, Oh No! Getting Organized Can Help

Monday, November 8th, 2010 by admin

Here is a tip I read that is very timely if you are traveling for the holidays or going to be away from your home for the weekend. If you have read my blog in the past few days you know that’s what I am doing—traveling.  Read on to discover how being organized can help prevent accidents.

This actually happened to a friend of mine; when they got home from a 2 week vacation water was pouring all over their hardwood floor on the main level of their home and the ceiling had collapsed.

Washing machine hose failure is one of the biggest causes of household water damage. Property destruction by water exceeds that of fire.

Here are some things you can do to get organized and prevent this from happening to you:

1. Turn off the water to the hose when you leave for an extended period of time.

2. Make sure your machine’s existing water hoses are sturdy—the best are the braided type.

3. Replace the hose about every six or seven years.

4. A plumber can install an automatic shutoff valve. This might be pricey.

Have you ever replaced your hoses? Do you turn off the water to your washing machine when you are gone for an extended period?

Clearing Clutter In The Laundry Room

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 by admin

Clearing clutter in the laundry roomI saw the most beautiful laundry room ever in a new home. There is cute tile the full length of the counter top and florescent lights galore under the upper cupboards. The tile is in bright colors depicting different clothes. There is a lot of space in the room and it is a dream to fold clothes as there are two large windows at the end of the room.

Many of us don’t have this much room where we do laundry and we need to set about clearing clutter. Especially when others are doing their laundry. Here is an organizing tip to help others to do their own laundry:

Write a step-by-step how-to’s for each load of laundry that will be done—one for delicates, one for color’s, one for whites and for darks. Put on the card how much soap to use, bleach etc.

And be sure to include what drying cycle should be used and if a dryer sheet should be tossed in with the clothes. Clearing clutter will be part of the instructions—throw the old dryer sheet in the trash and clean out the lint screen with every batch.

This will save you and them a lot of time and a lot of questions when they are doing the laundry.

Organizing Tips For Little Touch Ups

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009 by admin

Organizing tips for clutter controlRecently I bought a new entertainment “table” and the old one which was bulky had to be carried out of the basement. As the men were maneuvering it up the stairs the wall was scratched. They were concerned, but I was just grateful they were doing what they were doing. Because of a few organizing tips my friend Heather had shared with me it was no problem to quickly touch up the scratch on the wall.

“This is my sanity. I have a small Rubbermaid sample of all the paints that I have in the house. Even a small tub of spackle. Sometimes I just wander through the house and look for all of my touch-ups. No one would do touch-up if they had to dig their big gallon can of paint out of the basement to haul it from room to room
I sometimes take it with me when I do my cleaning so that the instant I find a touch-up, I can do it right then and not have to remember where it was when I came back to it”.

Organizing tips for clutter control

I love this organizing tip. Often places don’t get touched up because I had to drag out the can and by the time I get the lid off and on a few times the paint has dried out. And it is such a pain to not only get the can out but to get the key or screwdriver to open it and then the hammer to close the lid tight.

What simple organizing tips do you use around your home to make it easier to keep up with the “little things”?

Product Review of Furniture Movers and Happy Friday The 13th

Friday, February 13th, 2009 by admin

Organizing tips for clutter controlI was watching Good Morning America and a woman was reviewing some products as seen on info-commercials. I was shocked that she was negative on one of my favorite organizing tools. They tried to move a car with the product and it wouldn’t move, well h-e-l-l-o how many times do we need to spin our car around?

I am talking about “furniture movers”. What a wonderful organizing idea. They come in different sizes but the size here can move anything in my home—the biggest thing I have is a heavy armoire and I have moved it from one room to another using these.

They work so well at sliding things and getting them to move that with just two underneath smaller items they start moving. The first pair I bought I paid about $11.00 and I thought if they don’t work I’m not out much, they worked so well I gave those away and got me another set. You can purchase them in paint stores and variety stores. In my opinion every home should have these if they ever move furniture.

Have you ever used them? If so, what do you think of them? Share your organizing ideas with us all.

Product Review of Scentsy "un-candle"

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 by admin

I am always on the lookout for organizing ideas to share with my readers and I am excited about this. It is called Scentsy. This is a fabulous way to have your home smell good and be safe at the same time.

Several months ago my daughter gave me a Scentsy “un-candle” (that is what I call it) and I love it. These are the reasons I love it and recommend it:

1. My home smells good when I use it. (Which is every day)
2. It is safe! It is safe to leave on all day, it is safe around children. My grandson stuck his finger in the wax and he pulled back quickly and looked at his finger when he felt the warm wax, it did not burn and he did not cry.
3. They come in wonderful styles to fit every room. This is the one I use in my family room. They just added plug in ones which I have on order. They also have ones for the car.

4. When ordering on line S/H is very reasonable—it is just 10% of the entire order. I really like that.
5. They are reasonably priced and the refills are cheap.
6. They fit into any decor and in any room.
7. It is easy to order on line at: www.scentsy.com/jschofield

We would love to hear what you think of this product.

5 Tips To Prevent Water Damage In Your Home

Friday, June 27th, 2008 by admin

5 top sources of water damage in homes, for women and seniorsI used to work with a woman who came home from vacation to find the first floor of her home flooded. The tap where the water turns on to the washing machine had broken in their absence. The washing machine was on the second floor of her home; so two floors were flooded.

One of the repairmen advised to always turn off the water to the washing machine when you are away from home for any length of time. Have you ever know of someone this problem has happened to?

Want to know the top 5 sources of water damage in homes?
•Toilet. Don’t over stuff with tissue, and know where the shutoff valve is located.
•Washing machine hose. Make sure it is properly connected.
•Water heater. Maintain it properly
•Ice maker. Check the supply line for leaks or blockages every six months
•Tub and Shower. Maintain caulking to prevent leaks
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound—Oh, I can’t remember what, that’s going to drive me crazy. (If you know the rest of this saying, please comment and let me know).
