Pick This Week For Organizing Product

Friday, March 15th, 2013 by admin

As you may know I teach classes on how to organize.  One of my most popular classes is about paper and what to do with all of it that comes in our homes.

I teach the Freedomfiler organizing system as it is simple, easy to use and is low cost. If you don’t have a file cabinet to store your files then use a translucent file tote.

In my last class a woman said she had gotten rid of her filing cabinet and only used a plastic box to store her files. I am not that much of a minimalist so I don’t ever seeing myself doing that. Also she does EVERYTHING on line so she doesn’t keep instructions books or anything like that. (I do)

Plastic file boxes protect papers from water damage and are portable.

Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day, I hope yours is a happy and safe one. I always think it is fun when everyone dresses in green–we all look like a community of happy people.

Sunny Product Review On “The Easy Organizer”

Organizing Product Review:

My loyal blog reader and friend bought my book and has told everyone she can about it. When she offered to write a review for my blog I jumped at the chance. One day she was in Joann’s Crafts and when she saw a woman looking through my book she immediately told her how terrific it is…based on her personal experience.

Edna wrote:

There are so many great things about her book “The Easy Organizer”. It is so user friendly. You can if you want read each and every page in order, OR by looking at the first page of each chapter there she lists each tip she will elaborate in that chapter.

However, I like how you can view the book if you have a question, and can find it in her book by looking at the list on first page of each chapter, and then reading her suggestions. For example, the other day I was looking at my recipes I have collected for some time. The thought came to me to see what Marilyn says about organizing recipes. Yep, Chapter 5 tip #118. There was not only 1 idea, but 2 ideas on how I could organize my recipes. It is amazing how it felt like she was next to me telling me her ideas and letting me choose which one would work for me.

Marilyn’s book is a fun, and very resourceful tool to have around, be it a young homemaker or a seasoned homemaker. Her ideas are very doable, inventive, for everyone.

Thank you Edna for taking your time to write this review.

Big Surprises In Small Spaces–Show ‘N Share

Tuesday Show ‘N Share

I am so happy I didn’t say Tuesday’s blog would be before and after pictures because I am too good at making mistakes. I decided to organize this armoire in the office last Saturday. I was excited because I actually remembered to take a before photo.

But then you know what? I erased it thinking it was one of the after photos. (That’s what I get for not putting on my glasses).

When I opened the doors of this armoire I thought there was no way I could organize and de-clutter it any better. I was in for a BIG surprise. I have been hanging on to some plastic drawer organizers—for what, I don’t know. I took them out and gave them away.

I recycled all of my calendars—except for my England ones my friend across the pond sends me for Christmas. I created enough space by de-cluttering that I was able to put all of my padded envelopes here. There were other things I got rid of and I rearranged the things that live here.

The reason I started this project is because our lights went out a week ago and I had to get alternate lights. After gathering flashlights I went to where the lanterns were kept. They are now all together and much easier to reach.

This brings up a question—do you have alternate lights besides flashlights?

Today is National Boss’ Day but more importantly it is my birthday. I wish you could see the big smile I am giving you. It is great to be alive and to share my stories and organizing tips with you.

Myth #2

Just because you have a good filing system doesn’t mean you will always use it.  TRUE

Actually this is only partially true. As you know I use Freedom Filers and it is so easy to file I actually don’t mind filing. (I used to dislike it a lot) Clutter clearing paper is a cinch with this terrific system. But I divert, why does this basket look full to over flowing?

Because I did a quick clean up of my desk and tossed what needed to be filed in the basket. This is actually a timely tip. It saved me a lot of time to take the things out of the basked and file away instead of doing it one at a time. And I did it while I was chatting with someone so I killed two birds with one stone. (That is quite a dreadful saying isn’t it?) But then if the shoe fits—wear it.

I caution you—if you are the type that never gets back to the basket to file, then do not try this method.  It works well for me to file once a week. Yet at other times I do file each paper one at a time.

Clutter clearing paper does not have to be a chore, or a trial, or a dreaded thing—but having a good system is absolutely key to your success. I recommend Freedom Filers. (I wish I had been the one who created it, I’m just glad someone did).

Feel-Good Freedom To Get Rid Of Clutter

Friday, September 7th, 2012 by admin

Wahoosie!! Do you ever wake up in the morning and think wahoosie, I get to file papers in my filing cabinet today? I bet you said “No Way”.

Do you look forward to the mail coming and wish there was more? I would like more of the good stuff. I removed my name from junk mail lists years ago so I get very little of that. If you dislike junk mail do a Google search for a bunch of places that can get your named removed from lists—you only have to sign up for one place.

Now when it comes to filing —Freedom  Filers is a fantastic filing system that will breathe fresh air into your desire to get rid of clutter in your files. It is ultra easy to use and keeps files lean. I have set up hundreds of home offices and small business offices using this system. Just as important I can find any paper I have filed in under 10 seconds—honest.

The testimonials say it the best. Do you have a filing system? Do you use Freedom Filers?

Organizing Product Review for your home office:

I have been looking around my home for something to do a product review on and nothing new has jumped out at me. Thus I am going to review an old product that many of you may have in your home. And then again I think many of you may not—at least that is my take on it when I teach classes and organize with women in their homes.

To declutter your home you need a filing cabinet. I feel everyone needs one. There are several on the market that can fit in anyone’s space. If you don’t have one, buy one or use a plastic banker box that comes with a lid and accommodates hanging files. If you have one now and it is a two drawer one that the drawers only pulls out about 11” may I suggest you donate it and get you one that is functional. (I talk more about filing cabinets in my book “Go Organize!” Conquer Clutter In 3 Simple Steps.

The ones that don’t slide out far enough are frustrating and aren’t very functional. To keep up with filing it has to be easy to get in and out of. My favorite filing system is Freedom Filers. I have set it up for hundreds of my clients and they love it too. It helps you declutter your home because all of your papers have a home and you can find what you need!

4 Nifty Ideas To Get Rid Of Paper Clutter

Monday, April 30th, 2012 by admin

Monday’s Paper Clutter Focus:

Thank you cards

When you read this what did you think? Do you still receive them? Do you need to keep all the ones you have? Are you selective in the ones you keep? Do you have a pile of them and have they become clutter? Are they taking up too much space in your drawers, cupboards or where ever?

It can be so hard to get rid of the clutter of thank you notes we receive. I recommend:

  • Keep a select and special few
  • Designate a home for them
  • Keep the note, not the envelope
  • Transfer the address from the envelope into your address book

What do you do with thank you notes? I LOVE to get them but I realize I don’t have to keep them all, I will do something nice for someone again and if I am lucky I will get a new note.

Look at all the clutter she cleared—it doesn’t even look like the same drawer. JL Thank you for sharing!

Do you have a drawer that needs some clutter clearing? Send me you photos and I’ll post them as inspiration to us all. Or leave a comment telling us what you did.

Tiny Yet Brilliant Clutter Control Tip

Friday, April 6th, 2012 by admin

I have many cords that go from my computer to the printer, router, modem and some other cords as well that are all under my desk. They are neatly tucked away but when I have to unplug one of them I have to hunt around for the right cord.  In a word it is a PAIN.

I have seen many ways to organize cords and I this one I am actually using for clutter control under my desk. I don’t have colored ones but the white ones are working great. I didn’t take a photo because it is dark under there and this photo is easier to see.

What do you do for cord clutter control?

5 Easy To Follow Tips For Paper Clutter

Show ‘N Share Paper Clutter Tuesday: (Day 4 of 5 showing clutter in my home)

Don’t you just love to file? Do you go to your mail box and pull out papers that need to be filed and you dance and sing all the way to your office because you have something that needs to be filed? (If you said yes I want to know if your nose is growing like Pinocchio’s did).

I use a fabulous filing system called Freedom Filer that I have set up for tons of my clients to get rid of paper clutter.
However…the best of systems is only as good as the person “using” the system. My files need some weeding out as they have become too full and it is harder to file in them than I like it to be. And besides I like tossing “things to be filed” in this basket and taking one day a week to file everything. It takes me less than 5 minutes to file. I chose a day that is less busy for me to do this and it is actually pretty relaxing.

To recap these filing tips:

•Use a fabulous system that is EASY
•File once a week
•Put all papers to be filed in one place
•File on a day that is less busy than others
•Keep files lean and up to date—I do this constantly as well as every 6 months I go through all of them one by one if they are over grown like the receipts one tends to do.
