Check Out This Jewlery Organizer To Reduce Clutter

Friday, May 24th, 2013 by admin

Show ‘N Share:

I went to a friend’s home and she immediately showed me her latest organizing project—this necklace holder.

They got it at Home Depot (or was it Lowe’s?) As you can see it holds a lot of necklaces tangle free. What a great way to get rid of clutter in your jewelry box by hanging your necklaces where they can be easily seen.

How do you separate your necklaces so you can find the one you want when you want it?

Easily Accessible DVD Storage

Friday, May 10th, 2013 by admin

This is something I hadn’t seen before. If you store your DVD’s in a drawer this looks like a great solution to keeping them organized.

Arrange videos and games in the Expandable DVD Drawer Organizer.

Turn a drawer into a neatly organized media storage center. No more routing around in the drawer to find the disc you want. Spring-loaded dividers hold up to 30 cases. They are on sale right right now for $15.00 for two. What a great way to organize clutter if you don’t have a system now for your DVD’s.

How do you store your DVD’s? I use cases to store mine in after I take them out of the cases they came in.

Personal Reminder Tool To Get Organized

Friday, April 26th, 2013 by admin

Do you ever wish you could have a personal reminder for events that happen in your life to help you get organized, to help with clutter control? Here is a web site to check out. I have tried it for a few years and it is actually fun. The site is: memotome.com

I use a planner to write down important happenings, but this is another way to keep track of events, anniversaries, birthday etc.

Their site says they are the #1 internet reminder service. Never miss a birthday, anniversary or appointment again. It is free. However they do have a level (I haven’t figured out why you would want it) that is $20.00 a month.

Do you use a planner or a reminder service or beeps on your phone or email alerts to help you remember? Here is just another way to help control clutter.

Organizing Product Organizes Clutter

Friday, April 19th, 2013 by admin

I was trying to find a little gadget I love for taking out poached cups and I couldn’t find it, but I came across this. I know a lot of you use sponges and I thought of you—-It is sold exclusively at Uncommon Goods. It is $28.00. Maybe next week I will have found my little gadget I want to rave about to you.

Fight Grime

To wipe out bad guys (germs), you have to sink to their level–the kitchen sink, to be exact. This industrial-grade stainless steel rack helps expunge bacteria while keeping it clean with two distinct shelves for your separate sponges. A slot for your “good sponge” (used for counter top and dishes) and “evil sponge” (sink and drain) helps you keep track of your scrubbers without sacrificing space or style.

Here is one of their reviews on this product:

Love the intended function of separating sponges by use & the sleek look. Works great as long as your sponges are wet, but, as some other reviewers have also pointed out, my dry sponges constantly slide off when subjected to the normal bumps & vibrations caused by using a sink area (turning on water, etc.) A simple low lip on the front would fix this flaw and make this product perfect.

I am a cloth kind of gal and I switch out every day for a clean cloth in the kitchen. What do you use? A sponge or cloth?

Candid Tip On De-cluttering

Thursday, February 7th, 2013 by admin

I am preparing to teach an organizing class at one of the local high schools for community education this week. My daughter and I were talking and she said she can’t stand it when a teacher says, “Oh, this is easy”. This sets so many people up for failure because when they try it and have problems or can’t do it they feel they are a failure. (NOT SO!)

Don’t be fooled by those who say organizing is easy. If you don’t find that it is easy you may become discouraged. Everyone is different and what is easy for one person may not be for another—so don’t believe it unless you do it and it is easy for you.

Everyone learns differently and does things differently. That is why I give a lot of different tips on organizing so that hopefully I can make it simple and perhaps even easy for you. I find de-cluttering my home fun and for me it is easy—but that doesn’t mean someone else feels the same way.

How do you feel about organizing? Is it easy? I suspect that sometimes yes, sometimes not so much. My daughter was knitting a scarf and she complained that they said it was easy. As we talked she realized it was easy, but it took a long time to do.

We sometimes get this mixed up—it may be easy but time consuming so we say it was hard. Your opinion?

Spring Cleaning Brings Me To Organizing On TV

Monday’s Spring Clutter Clearing Focus:

For you early birds and those in other countries my blog will be posted in detail later this week because I will be on KUTV, a local T.V. station on a show called Fresh Living. We tape at 10:00 and it airs at 1:00 MST. Then the segment will also be posted here on Thursday.

The subject they asked me to talk about is spring cleaning. Cleaning does go hand in hand with organizing. So come back for some clutter clearing tips as seen on T.V.

Organize Clutter–Go The Distance

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011 by admin

“Success isn’t how far you got, but the distance you traveled from where you started.”—proverb

As a professional organizer working with women to organize clutter they express frustration that it takes longer than they think to organize their clutter. (Once their things are organized they no longer think of it as clutter).

I am one of those who want things done now—forget the journey, let alone enjoy the journey. I have 5 photo albums that have needed labeling on the outside saying what trip photos were inside and others that needed journaling. One was from last November.

I got them all out Monday and with a sigh I tackled them. What surprised me was how far I got by doing them a little at a time. I only have ½ of one album left to journal. It was great fun looking at the photos because all these great memories came back to me.

Technically this wasn’t organizing clutter but the saying sure fit me!

Organizing Clutter Is Practical On Product Review Friday

Friday, January 7th, 2011 by admin

I was given this practical and cute organizer to help with organizing clutter,  for Christmas. We had been to Cheyenne Wyoming earlier in the year (2010) and at the visitor’s center we were given these cute glass boots.

Now, before I accepted it I had to have in my mind where I would put it and what I would use it for. It served me pretty well for several months. The pens were a bit crowded but it was okay because I liked the memory of our trip.

When I was sent this cute organizer that fits around a mug I saw just how cluttered my pens were in the boot. Sometimes organizing clutter is hard because we just “put up” with things without realizing it. Look at the difference just a container makes. I didn’t realize I was putting up with clutter until I saw the difference this little organizer made. It is attractive and practical. I love it.

When organizing clutter it is perfectly acceptable to give up one container for another—and don’t feel guilty about it either. My boot went to the recycle party in the sky.

Organizing Clutter In A Bordello (Former One That Is)

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 by admin

It is the day before Thanksgiving and it is bitter cold outside.  It is only 17 degrees—it has exceeded the high predicted for today. At least the snow we got last night will be around for awhile.

Today I am going to share my adventure of being (sort of) in a bordello last week. Have you ever read or seen the magazine “Where Women Create”? It is fabulous eye candy magazine showing women’s studios. We were graciously invited to visit their studio in Ogden Utah. Talk about creative! They have lots and lots and lots of things that are beautifully organized. They are masters at organizing clutter.

As we were walking through this historic building on 25th street (a street that in the early 1900’s was the red light district) and talking about organizing clutter we noticed the floor was painted different colors to represent rooms.

Talk about creative, to preserve some of the history of this very old red brick building (inside and out) she has painted the floor in different colors the size of the rooms that were long ago the upstairs rooms of the bordello.

Jo, the creator of the magazine and her staff were so gracious to show us around, serve cup cakes, hot chocolate and they even gave us a goodie bag. They made organizing clutter look easy, which it is when we surround ourselves with things we love, that light us up and inspire us. What inspires you?

Organize Clutter Before It Finds Friends

Monday, September 27th, 2010 by admin

Before becoming an organizing expert I came from a social work background having been a social service worker for over 24 years. I was a child abuse investigator for many years. To this day I can’t watch any T.V. program that has anything to do with abused children or women. It is my observation that when a person is down then others join in teasing or whatever and I can’t stand that.

I have observed that is how it is with clutter in the kitchen, in the office or in the bedroom. The easiest way to organize clutter is to put things away before “other things” can join in and create piles of clutter.

  • Instead of throwing the skirt on the floor, hang it up.
  • Instead of throwing the mail on the desk or kitchen counter, put it in a designated landing place like a basket.
  • After using it, put the spoon or bowl in the dishwasher instead of placing it in the sink.

It is surprising how easy it is to organize clutter when we don’t allow even a tiny amount to accumulate—as that often leads to bigger and not better piles of clutter.

Do you have a room where clutter likes to join other clutter?
