Flight Or Flight?

What Works For You?

The following comes directly from The Container Store web site. I have to say something before you read what they have to say—

This is such a cute set that even if you aren’t hopping a plane this is a cute organizer for a weekend trip. I love these kind of bags. I own several and I was just saying I wish I would have bought 10 more when Crate and Barrel had them a few years ago.

Now from their web site:

Not following the 3-1-1 Rule when it comes to packing toiletries in your carry-on luggage can result in everything from delays going through security to having to dump your favorite products in the trash! Follow these easy tips when packing carry-on bags and you’ll breeze through security checks.

1. 3.4 ounces or less

Remember, liquids and gels must be in 3.4 ounce (100 ml) or smaller containers. Fortunately, these travel-sized containers come with a variety of lid options. Flip-top lids are ideal for your shampoo, conditioner and body wash, while those with pump tops are perfect for things like hair spray.

2. One clear, 1-quart zip-top bag

It doesn’t matter how many 3.4 ounce or smaller containers you have as long as they fit in your clear, 1-quart zip-top bag. Regular food-storage bags work, or for a sturdier option, look for a reusable bag designed especially for travel.

3. One per traveler

Each traveler is allowed one of these clear, 1-quart zip-top bags. Be sure to have your 1-quart bag out and ready to be placed in the screening bin in order to move through security as quickly as possible.

4. Exceptions

Breast milk, baby formula and medicines are exceptions to the 3.4 ounce or less rule. Be sure to only carry what you need for your flight and declare it to the TSA agent before passing through security.

Easily Accessible DVD Storage

Friday, May 10th, 2013 by admin

This is something I hadn’t seen before. If you store your DVD’s in a drawer this looks like a great solution to keeping them organized.

Arrange videos and games in the Expandable DVD Drawer Organizer.

Turn a drawer into a neatly organized media storage center. No more routing around in the drawer to find the disc you want. Spring-loaded dividers hold up to 30 cases. They are on sale right right now for $15.00 for two. What a great way to organize clutter if you don’t have a system now for your DVD’s.

How do you store your DVD’s? I use cases to store mine in after I take them out of the cases they came in.

Personal Reminder Tool To Get Organized

Friday, April 26th, 2013 by admin

Do you ever wish you could have a personal reminder for events that happen in your life to help you get organized, to help with clutter control? Here is a web site to check out. I have tried it for a few years and it is actually fun. The site is: memotome.com

I use a planner to write down important happenings, but this is another way to keep track of events, anniversaries, birthday etc.

Their site says they are the #1 internet reminder service. Never miss a birthday, anniversary or appointment again. It is free. However they do have a level (I haven’t figured out why you would want it) that is $20.00 a month.

Do you use a planner or a reminder service or beeps on your phone or email alerts to help you remember? Here is just another way to help control clutter.

Organizing Product Organizes Clutter

Friday, April 19th, 2013 by admin

I was trying to find a little gadget I love for taking out poached cups and I couldn’t find it, but I came across this. I know a lot of you use sponges and I thought of you—-It is sold exclusively at Uncommon Goods. It is $28.00. Maybe next week I will have found my little gadget I want to rave about to you.

Fight Grime

To wipe out bad guys (germs), you have to sink to their level–the kitchen sink, to be exact. This industrial-grade stainless steel rack helps expunge bacteria while keeping it clean with two distinct shelves for your separate sponges. A slot for your “good sponge” (used for counter top and dishes) and “evil sponge” (sink and drain) helps you keep track of your scrubbers without sacrificing space or style.

Here is one of their reviews on this product:

Love the intended function of separating sponges by use & the sleek look. Works great as long as your sponges are wet, but, as some other reviewers have also pointed out, my dry sponges constantly slide off when subjected to the normal bumps & vibrations caused by using a sink area (turning on water, etc.) A simple low lip on the front would fix this flaw and make this product perfect.

I am a cloth kind of gal and I switch out every day for a clean cloth in the kitchen. What do you use? A sponge or cloth?

Eye-Opening Organizing Product

Friday, February 1st, 2013 by admin

I found this organizing product so interesting.  It is a memory card organizer. I have 2 memory cards for my camera. The one was a demo that came with my camera and only holds 10 photos so I never use it.

I didn’t know people used a different card for each vacation, I guess that is a good idea. Do you sometimes see something and think you must have that organizing product and then think about it and come up with other, better and cheaper ways to organize?

I thought about this one and I thought if I had a bunch I would just put them in a little cloth bag and label them individually.

Someone out there reading this may think this is just what they need.  Have you seen or used this product before?

Eye-Opening Organizing Product

I wish we had a Container store in our state—but alas, we don’t. I just go on line to look and dream.

Their site is very festive this time of the year and these cool organizing thingies caught my eye.

I loved playing jacks when I was a kid and these remind me of all the time I spent on the floor playing jacks. These are just too cool.

They are called Tumble Trivets and sell for $12.99 but I couldn’t find out for how many. They come in a container tin too.

They suggest it is a cool hostess gift—forget that, this is a fun and useful organizing tool for you. They are made of silicone and are heat resistant. Toss a few out on the counter or table and set your hot pot, casserole dish or cookie sheet on top.

Have you seen these before?  Pretty cool I think. I would like these from Santa in my sock.  Santa, are you reading this?

Feel-Good Freedom To Get Rid Of Clutter

Friday, September 7th, 2012 by admin

Wahoosie!! Do you ever wake up in the morning and think wahoosie, I get to file papers in my filing cabinet today? I bet you said “No Way”.

Do you look forward to the mail coming and wish there was more? I would like more of the good stuff. I removed my name from junk mail lists years ago so I get very little of that. If you dislike junk mail do a Google search for a bunch of places that can get your named removed from lists—you only have to sign up for one place.

Now when it comes to filing —Freedom  Filers is a fantastic filing system that will breathe fresh air into your desire to get rid of clutter in your files. It is ultra easy to use and keeps files lean. I have set up hundreds of home offices and small business offices using this system. Just as important I can find any paper I have filed in under 10 seconds—honest.

The testimonials say it the best. Do you have a filing system? Do you use Freedom Filers?

Organizing Product Review for your home office:

I have been looking around my home for something to do a product review on and nothing new has jumped out at me. Thus I am going to review an old product that many of you may have in your home. And then again I think many of you may not—at least that is my take on it when I teach classes and organize with women in their homes.

To declutter your home you need a filing cabinet. I feel everyone needs one. There are several on the market that can fit in anyone’s space. If you don’t have one, buy one or use a plastic banker box that comes with a lid and accommodates hanging files. If you have one now and it is a two drawer one that the drawers only pulls out about 11” may I suggest you donate it and get you one that is functional. (I talk more about filing cabinets in my book “Go Organize!” Conquer Clutter In 3 Simple Steps.

The ones that don’t slide out far enough are frustrating and aren’t very functional. To keep up with filing it has to be easy to get in and out of. My favorite filing system is Freedom Filers. I have set it up for hundreds of my clients and they love it too. It helps you declutter your home because all of your papers have a home and you can find what you need!

Organizing Product Keeps Plants Fresh And Alive

Organizing Product Review for Plants:

Something you might not think about when you go on vacation, but plants need to be organized too if you want to come home to living plants. Do you gather them all together and put them in the bathtub with water in the tub? Do you get a neighbor to water them? Do you use those little beads that absorb water? My daughter did and the plant actually died later. We think it is because it got too much water.

Here is an organizing product I had never seen before. It is called the vacation anti drought plant treatment from whatever.com.

They say plants survive for Two Weeks Without Water. It is an all-natural treatment that places your plants in a state of drought resistance for up to two weeks. It can be used on indoor and outdoor plants. They also say it is safe for people and pets. An 8-oz bottle makes up to three gallons of solution. Right now it is on sale for just under $10.00.

Have you ever used a product like this to insure your plants are still alive when you get home from vacation?

Organizing Product Adds Closet Space

Closet Organizing Product Review:

I was organizing with a delightful woman last week when she asked me what I thought of these. (See the photo). I said, “Let’s try it”.  We had just finished organizing her closet so it was easy to take some hangers and hang them from this and then hang it back in the closet. It did save rod space and it was still easy to see what clothes were hanging from it.

Then we took her scarfs and hung them from another one of these organizing products.

I think when space is limited this is a nifty organizing product. She said she got it from a TV ad or maybe a variety store. She didn’t remember how much they were, but I thought it was a great product and I wanted to share it with you in case you came across them and wondered if they worked or not. Thank you for sharing with us Amanda.

Have you used them? If so do you know where you got them and the cost? Today is Friday the 13th–are you superstitious?
