Just For Kicks Let’s Do Clutter Clearing

Monday, April 23rd, 2012 by admin

Monday’s Clutter Clearing Focus:

Costco has this delicious trail mix that has nuts, yogurt buds (I am not sure what they really are it is just delicious), raisins and chocolate chips. Our local store was out of it so as I was leaving for work I left the phone number of another store for my daughter to call to see if they have it.

The number didn’t work and it is the one I had in my planner. I checked on line and called the number listed there and sure enough I had the wrong number written down.

How are the phone numbers you have? Are they all up to date or do you have so many cross outs it is hard to see which one is the right number to call? I am sure guilty of this one. Right now I just updated my address book and my goal is to keep it clean and readable! (I hope it lasts forever—I am such a dreamer).

The older my book gets I need help clearing clutter in my address book—how about you? Do any of you use electronic address books? If so do you have to do clutter clearing on them or do they stay clutter free?

5 Easy To Follow Tips For Paper Clutter

Show ‘N Share Paper Clutter Tuesday: (Day 4 of 5 showing clutter in my home)

Don’t you just love to file? Do you go to your mail box and pull out papers that need to be filed and you dance and sing all the way to your office because you have something that needs to be filed? (If you said yes I want to know if your nose is growing like Pinocchio’s did).

I use a fabulous filing system called Freedom Filer that I have set up for tons of my clients to get rid of paper clutter.
However…the best of systems is only as good as the person “using” the system. My files need some weeding out as they have become too full and it is harder to file in them than I like it to be. And besides I like tossing “things to be filed” in this basket and taking one day a week to file everything. It takes me less than 5 minutes to file. I chose a day that is less busy for me to do this and it is actually pretty relaxing.

To recap these filing tips:

•Use a fabulous system that is EASY
•File once a week
•Put all papers to be filed in one place
•File on a day that is less busy than others
•Keep files lean and up to date—I do this constantly as well as every 6 months I go through all of them one by one if they are over grown like the receipts one tends to do.

Simplified Solution To Get Rid Of Paper Clutter

Friday, March 9th, 2012 by admin

Product Review:

As you know I do products reviews every Friday. Today I am asking you what kind of product have you been looking for and can’t find? My readers from near and far can maybe point you in the right direction to find what you are looking for.

For the next few weeks I am sharing some fun ideas that cost very little.

To get rid of wrapping paper clutter attach two wires from side to side to contain rolls. In this photo they have done it on the ceiling rather than cluttering the floor (their words, not mine).

I don’t see why the rolls don’t fall right down, but there you have it. It would work beautifully on the floor of a closet if you have the room.

Do you have a clever wrapping paper solution to get rid of wrapping paper clutter?

Get Out Of Paper Debt

Thursday, November 10th, 2011 by admin

In the newsletter Cycles I receive quarterly I read these timely tips on “staying out of paper debt” which I think are good tips to control paper clutter.

Have you ever thought that cleaning out your paper is like finally getting out of debt—you have said over and over you are getting rid of paper piles and then it just creeps back again and again.

  • Get your bank, credit card and URS statements on line from your bank.
  • Try paying your bills—even a few online and save time and the 44 cent stamp.
  • Think about buying a small scanner (like neat receipts) that converts your papers to images you can store on a computer or compact disk. You can view and print them as needed. A CD also makes a great emergency backup.

If you use any of these tips now you are already on your way to controlling paper clutter. Now you need a good filing system that works for you. As you know my favorite is Freedomfiler.

It’s Never Too Late To De-Clutter Paper

Thursday, October 27th, 2011 by admin

One of my newsletter readers took the time to send me an email about her experience with going through her child’s papers he brought home from school. She said I could share it with my blog readers:

“I have to select just a few of my son’s elementary school papers/artwork/projects to keep in a plastic bin.  I am going to have him go thru (it) with me and help. He says he would throw it all out if it were up to him!  Tough for me to do; it is all so cute and he is such a prodigy (now almost 19yrs and in college)!!”

Thank you Mimi for sharing this with us.

Are you holding onto papers that have become clutter? Mimi’s sons papers/artwork/projects I am sure are wonderful but to keep them all is not practical—or necessary.

What do you need to de-clutter in your home? Is it old paper work, is it magazines, old mail, or is it a pile of papers on your desk? Once again I am de-cluttering this morning the papers that are in my in-box. They are contained waiting for me to get to them and today is the day.

By the way if you want a good article on what to do with children’s paper work read one of my article  that gives many useful tips and ideas.

Do you have paper you need to de-clutter? Where and what type is it?

Clutter Control Is Off To A Flaming Start

If you have read my book you have read the story of the Phoenix bird rising from ashes to become something better and stronger. This photo is a good example of that!

All of these things you see in the photo were contained in boxes which I inherited when my aunt died several years ago. Last month I spent 4 mornings sorting photos and “stuff”. It looks like chaos but I know what every pile is and where the piles will go.

Some things went to my daughter, other photos I mailed off to cousins, and there was a pile for recycling. From 3 bins I narrowed it down to one small bin which will get even smaller as I put photos into one book.

This kind of clutter control was fun but it was a little sad too as I spent these days thinking about my wonderful aunt and what she meant to me. I think this is the reason I did it a little at a time and why I put it off for so long. Sometimes we just have to “be” with things before we can take care of them.

Do you agree?

Loising Weight Easy By Clearing Clutter

Clearing Clutter Show ‘N Share Tuesday

I lost 16 pounds today and it took very little effort.  It all started with me clearing clutter in my child’s cupboard I have had since I was 6 years old. I had done the cupboards (you saw them last week) and I moved on to the drawers and shelves below.

I was shocked to see all the phone books in the drawers.  Now, you could make the argument that we don’t need phonebooks anymore and we could save forests of trees because we have the Internet so who needs a phone book?

These in the photo are the ones I recycled.  I kept three others—WHY? The answer is simple—what will the grand kids sit on when they come to visit? (Just Kidding) That is pretty lame as I don’t ever use them for that, but I do have someone in my home who likes to use a phonebook to look up numbers.

I know discussions rage, to keep or not to keep phone books—what do you say? For me clearing clutter was easy as it was simple to recycle phone books and I lost 16 pounds in the bargain.
