What a lively time we had organizing this office together. As a professional organizer it is a heady experience to dig into an organizing project and see the results change from overwhelming to fabulous.
This business woman kept saying over and over “thank you for organizing my office; I never would have gotten it this organized. When I have tried before to clear clutter in my office I got tired and I just stuffed things where ever they would fit instead of finding homes for everything”.

We found places that made sense to her when she needs to retrieve them and we set up a working filing system. (As you know, I say this all the time, Freedom Filer is my favorite filing system).
Do you have a favorite container you use to organize in your office? Clearing clutter in the office or any other room is so much easier with the right container.

If you don’t take care of yourself then who will? After you have been working hard clearing clutter then give yourself a treat. It could be a massage, a charm for your bracelet or 15 minutes to do whatever you want to do.
I was on KJZZ T.V. this morning talking about my book Go Organize! This is one of the tips I talk about in my book. It was delightful being in the studio as Ron Bird and Debbie Worthlin are fun news people to work with.
Clearing clutter can be its own reward when you can see the color of your desk or find shoes to wear or find something you have been looking for. But remember after clearing clutter you deserve a treat!
What treat are you going to give yourself after clearing clutter in your basement, drawer, closet or kitchen?

Zeus was a God in Greek mythology. He was the only one who had fire and he guarded his secret fiercely until one day Prometheus stole the secret of fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals. Zeus was angered and he ordered Hephaestus to create the first woman, Pandora, as part of the punishment of mankind. (Now that doesn’t seem quite fair that he considered this a punishment does it?)
She was given a beautiful urn (which we now refer to as Pandora’s box) and was instructed never to open it. Along with this beautiful box Pandora was also given the gift of curiosity. One day she decided to take a peek inside and when she did open the lid all of the evils, ills, sicknesses and burdensome labor that mankind had not know before escaped from the jar. At the very bottom of her jar there lay hope.
As you survey the rooms in your home do you feel a Pandora’s box has been opened and it released clutter, disorganization, an overwhelming mess, and disruption to your daily life?
But remember in Pandora’s box there was also hope. No matter how awful you feel your home is in terms of clutter there is always hope that you can clear clutter.

I love Christmas morning. We open our gifts and throw all the tissue, ribbons and paper in piles. Then when we are finished opening gifts and eating Christmas breakfast we start clearing clutter.
We separate the tissue from the bows. We put the boxes in one sack and the used paper in another bag. (This is so Santa will have paper to wrap sock gifts in the next year.)
This year we used some recycled bags which are sturdier. And each bag is labeled with what goes in them. This is a terrific tip for clearing clutter because when things aren’t all mixed up together it saves frustration and time. And it made

so easy–it was a snap when everything had it’s own home.

All year long I feel it is a privilege to be a docent (tour guide) for historic buildings in Salt Lake City, Utah. I get so much in return by giving a few hours of my time. I meet interesting people and learn about history which I love.
Then in December the icing on the cake is when we get invited by the governor to the governors’ mansion for a fun night including meeting the governor and his wife and enjoying entertainment and superb food.
As we were in standing in the reception line I was said I don’t shake hands this time of year because of the flu going around. The man in front of me turned around and said this time make an exception! We talked about doing a knuckle or elbow bump and thought that wasn’t polite to do to the governor. So yes, I made an exception and shook hands. (Then I immediately made a beeline to the restroom and washed my hands).
I thought do we ever make exceptions to clearing clutter and instead just tell ourselves “Oh it is just a little thing, I’m not going to put that away right now” and before we know it we go from clutter creep to clutter piles?
What’s your experience on clearing clutter
in your life.

Today clutter control
will be about my mom and how she used to make homemade chicken noodle soup and I got to cut the noodles which I thought was the coolest thing. I inherited my mom’s noodle cutter and I think she would have loved this non stick rolling mat to roll the noodles out on.
I Love it because:
•There is no sticking, no tearing, no mess!
•It is wonderful for rolling out piecrust, cinnamon rolls and more.
•It is big so dough can be rolled to any size.
•Easy clean up, shake excess flour and rinse.
•No messy clean up off the counter, easy for clutter control.
•Takes up little room, I roll it around my rolling pin to store.
This is a great gadget that won’t ever become clutter. Sometimes we buy things thinking they are great only to realize later as we are getting rid of clutter our “favorite thing” is now clutter.
Have you bought something that has become clutter? Do you have a mat like this and if so what do you think of it?
Homemade Noodles:
2 C flour
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
Enough water to form a ball
Handle as little as possible to avoid it becoming tough
Roll out thin and cut with a noodle cutter or with a knife
Add to boiling soup stock stirring so they will separate and not clump

Company is coming! I have been moving furniture, dusting, vacuuming and clearing clutter like mad. I love having company because it really gets me going on reducing clutter. Yesterday I about laughed my head off as I found something that was lost in February and here it is November.
I was clearing clutter and vacuuming under the cushions on the couch in the family room and tucked way back under one of the cushions was our telephone. Back in February I was in Colorado and I got a phone call saying our phone was missing. We have a main floor and a basement so we need 2 phones. They had tried the allocator but it was so buried they couldn’t hear it. We had to buy a new phone.
I couldn’t believe that after all this time I found the now worthless phone. I did have a really good laugh and it was nice knowing what happened to it.
Now I only have two more things I can’t find—this gives me hope that I will find them. Do you have a lost and found story?
Check out my new book! It’s now in all major book stores. Click here to place your order

Yahoosies!! We have set our clock back by one hour. It will be so nice in the morning not to have it so dark so late in the day. Do you just drag around when it is dark and it seems harder to start the day? Yeah, me too.
I have some “lightening” ideas on clearing clutter that no matter what the clock says is a sure winner to clear clutter.
1. Take it slow when clearing clutter; don’t try to do it all at once. If you can’t get it all done you may become discouraged. Sprints aren’t always the best way to tackle a project. Enjoy the journey.
2. Set a timer when starting a project—especially one you dread doing. This will make the time go faster and will be an incentive to keep at the task until the timer rings.
3. If you wake up a bit earlier get out of bed and do some clutter clearing you have been putting off—consider this bonus time.
What did you do in October to clear clutter? Isn’t it wonderful to have a new month to look forward to?

Look at this cute magnetic board and calendar that is on it. My daughter gave me the board and my friend gave me the calendars. There is a little magnet calendar for each month of the year. This is the perfect place for birthday and anniversary dates.
This is another way to get rid of clutter. Hang things up so they are in plain sight but out of the way.
What is your favorite way to remember birthdays? Outlook reminder, calendars, notebooks?
