Happy Friday the 13th…lucky or unlucky? Does it affect your organizing?

June 13th, 2008

Superstition, Friday the 13th. Lucky or unlucky? Can it accect your organizingHi, my name is Cindy and Marilyn has asked me to be her guest blogger today. I’m a huge fan of hers and was delighted she asked.

As you know it’s Friday the 13th. No matter if you’re young, old, male, female, a woman, a man or a senior. If you grew up in the west then you’re probably familiar with the folklore and superstition that bad luck Friday the 13th inspires. Its right up there with a cracked mirror will bring seven years bad luck and walk on a crack and break your mothers back.

According to Wiki both the number 13 and Friday are both considered unlucky. It’s said 17-21 million people fear this day in the USA.

Have you had a scary and or unusually paranormal Friday the 13th? If so we’d love to hear it.

I can say I’m superstitious on a few other things but Friday the 13th isn’t one of them :)

I used to think Friday the 13 was actually a lucky day, until yesterday. I live in DC and on my metro ride to work we had to stop at each station and hold for approx. 5 minutes because there was a fire at a station a few stops away. So what normally takes 15 minutes took 1 hour. When I finally got to my stop and got out there was no electricity. We had only emergency lighting to get us above ground. All the power was out in different parts of the city, so masses of people couldn’t go to work and they couldn’t get on the metro to go home. Then, later in the day I drew lots for where I would move in my office and I got the WORST spot (there was only one bad one!). Then an event that is very high profile got changed at the very last minute, which I’d been working on for over a week. It didn’t end on a bad note though. I got to attend a concert of a much liked musician.

Julie, I am so sorry you got the worst place. That is strange they didn’t assign by seniority. What’s up with that? I like your positive outlook that it ended on a good note.
It’s a good thing Friday the 13th doesn’t happen every month.
